Rochester Community School Press Releases:

Approved 2021-2022 RCSC School Calendar
Please note the difference to Spring Break from what was on the proposed version.

November 13th, 2020

Rochester Community Schools is on target to re-open Tuesday, November 17, 2020.  Faculty and staff are looking forward to seeing the students and filling our buses and buildings with their excitement and energy.

Our ability to hold in-person classes remains fluid.  We must have the faculty and staff to safely and successfully educate your student(s).  As we work to educate students we must also work to keep everyone safe and healthy.  That being said, it may be necessary to close down school again or even portions of the school:  a bus route or classroom for example.

We know that Covid puts extra stressors on all and we are all feeling the exhaustion of the pandemic.  Please continue to work to safeguard your student and family as well as our district and community by:

--Do not send your student to school if they are feeling ill or have a fever
--Follow safety protocols by social distancing and wearing masks
--Wash hands often
--Adhere to basic personal hygiene

If we can assist you or your family, please be sure to reach out to your building principal or school nurse.
Thank you in advance for your patience and support.

November 2nd, 2020
Good afternoon—
It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing the close of Rochester Community Schools in-person learning through November 16th . At this time, we anticipate reopening our district on November 17th .
We will be providing meals to all students who would like that service beginning this Wednesday, November 4th. Please check our website www.zebras.net for further information.
Your student’s building level principal will be sending you specific information around virtual learning and those expectations. Please note that virtual learning will begin tomorrow.
We apologize for the inconvenience, but due to COVID and those throughout the district who are either symptomatic or quarantined, it is necessary for us to safeguard all.

Respectfully,
Jana K. Vance, Ed.S
Superintendent

Media Release October 20, 2020

Due to increasing positive Covid cases in Fulton County coupled with those who need to

quarantine to safeguard others, Rochester Schools is now considered in a "yellow" zone.  We are

finding that more of our faculty and staff are having to miss work due to Covid and that is

hindering our ability to educate students while ensuring everyone's safety. On October 20, 2020

over 13% of our adult staff was absent.

That being said, we are putting you on notice that in-person learning may have to be

discontinued for a period of time.  If this happens, we will be engaging students virtually on the

same schedule we started the 2020-2021 school year.  Principals will be sharing that

information directly with you.

Our goal, should we have to close, would be to try and provide a 48- hour notice of the

impending closing thus allowing families to make necessary arrangements for their

students.  Again, we are NOT announcing a closing, but are working to communicate with

parents that there is a strong possibility we will need to close.

Again, we appreciate your support and want to remind you to follow all guidelines around social

distancing and the wearing of masks.

"Good afternoon. The entire school staff, from teachers to administrators, from bus drivers to SRO work on school
safety and make plans so that we are able to recognize threats that may come. The safety of all is
our top priority.
I have been notified that bond has been set for those who had threatened the school.  Please note
that setting bond and being released on bond are two separate issues.  Please know that law
enforcement and the Prosecutor's Office continue to work with and support the school.
We have had and continue to have safety plans in place for incidents such as this.  Teachers and
staff have been trained in safety protocols such as ALICE.   We do not release detailed plans in
their entirety as that compromises what it is we do in and throughout the district.
We are thankful for the presence of the Sheriff's Department before school and after school at
Riddle.  They were there to help with the flow and control of traffic for the safety of students as
we are just beginning a new year.
Should it come to a point that we feel we can not safeguard all students, I would notify parents
and the community and we would go to total virtual learning.
We appreciate your continued support as we work diligently to provide every student a safe and
supportive environment to be educated."
