School Safety

Deputy Rick Utter is a deputy from the Fulton County Sheriff's Office assigned to Rochester Community Schools. He graduated from RHS in 1983. Not only does he keep our schools safe, he also builds positive relationships with students and staff and is a trusted presence in our buildings every day.

Our district Safe School Committee meets each month to review and strengthen our safety practices. Every school building has a Safe School Committee as well. This ongoing work helps us keep our procedures current and responsive, so we can continue to protect and support our school community.

Throughout the school year, students and staff regularly participate in safety drills—including fire and severe weather drills—to ensure everyone is prepared in case of an emergency. Our teachers and staff participate in ALICE training and Stop the Bleed Training every year as well.  

Rochester Community Schools requires background checks for all visitors and volunteers in our schools. 

In some situations, families may need to pick up students through a structured process called reunification. This may happen during emergencies such as severe weather, power outages, or other safety concerns.

If reunification is needed, students will be safely transported to a designated location, and families will be notified with details as quickly as possible. Our goal is to reunite you with your child in a calm, organized, and timely manner.

To help us reach you in an emergency, please keep your contact information up to date in Harmony and make sure an emergency contact is on file. When picking up your child, a valid photo ID will be required.
